The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Candidate in Adamawa State, Alhaji Tijjani Ahmed Galadima, alongside his running mate, Adamu Kamale, has paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., commending the agency’s contributions to transportation safety across Nigeria, particularly its interventions in Adamawa State.
The visit, which took place at the NSIB headquarters, Abuja, was described by the APC governorship candidate as an opportunity to appreciate the leadership and professional work being undertaken by the safety investigation agency under Captain Badeh Jr.
Galadima said he and his deputy were at the Bureau to personally acknowledge the efforts of the NSIB in strengthening transportation safety and its interventions in Adamawa State.
He expressed particular appreciation for the director-general’s leadership, noting that the Bureau’s activities had continued to demonstrate the importance of evidence-based safety investigation in preventing accidents and improving the safety of transportation systems across the country.
The APC candidate also commended the NSIB for maintaining a professional approach to safety investigations and for engaging relevant stakeholders in efforts to identify safety deficiencies and make recommendations capable of preventing recurrence of accidents.
Responding, the NSIB director-general welcomed the APC governorship candidate and his delegation, and used the occasion to explain the mandate, operations and expanding activities of the Bureau.
He highlighted the critical role of the NSIB in investigating accidents and serious incidents across Nigeria’s transportation sectors, including aviation, rail, road and marine transportation.
He explained that the Bureau’s investigations are primarily focused on determining the causes and contributing factors to accidents and incidents, identifying safety deficiencies and issuing safety recommendations aimed at preventing similar occurrences in the future.
The NSIB boss also enumerated some of the Bureau’s interventions and engagements in Adamawa State, noting that the agency had maintained strategic institutional partnerships and leadership-level engagements in the state as part of its broader efforts to strengthen multimodal transportation safety coordination.
According to him, the Bureau’s engagement with Adamawa forms part of its commitment to ensuring that safety investigation and accident-prevention mechanisms are strengthened not only at the federal level but also through effective collaboration with state institutions and other relevant stakeholders.
He stressed the importance of collaboration between the NSIB, state governments, transport operators, emergency-response agencies and other stakeholders in building a stronger safety culture.
Badeh noted that safety recommendations arising from investigations are designed to address identified deficiencies and provide practical measures that can help regulators, operators and other stakeholders improve their systems.
He further explained that the Bureau’s work goes beyond investigating accidents after they occur, stressing the importance of learning from previous occurrences and translating investigation findings into preventive actions.
The director-general thereafter led the Adamawa APC delegation on a tour of key facilities at the NSIB headquarters.
The visitors were taken through the Bureau’s laboratory facilities, where they were shown some of the technical capabilities available to investigators for the examination and analysis of evidence recovered from accident scenes.
The delegation also visited the NSIB training facilities, where the Director-General explained the importance of continuous professional development and specialised training in strengthening the capacity of safety investigators.
Speaking further on the purpose of the visit, Galadima reiterated that the delegation came principally to appreciate the NSIB leadership for what he described as the good work being done under Capt. Badeh.
He said the Bureau’s activities were important to the safety and wellbeing of Nigerians, stressing that effective transportation safety is essential to economic development, mobility and the protection of lives and property.
The governorship candidate particularly acknowledged the Bureau’s interest and interventions in Adamawa State, describing the agency’s engagement with the state as a positive development.
