Ahead of the off circle elections and 2027 general elections, the inspector-general of police, IGP Olatunji Disu has warned that no political parties or candidates will get preferential from the Nigeria Police Force.

The IGP who stated that everyone will be treated equally, noted that the Nigeria Police will maintain the electoral guidance and ensure peaceful elections.

IGP Disu stated this when the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) led a delegation of the INEC management to Force headquarters on Wednesday.

He said, “Nigeria Police Force is the lead agency for internal security and we are ever ready for peaceful elections. We will strive to ensure to ensure peaceful and violence free elections.

“I can assure you that no political party or candidate will receive preferential treatment from the police during the course of this elections. We will treat everyone equally and ensure a smooth elections.”

The IGP also assured the INEC team of police protection and called for collaboration with all relevant stakeholders to achieve free, fair and peaceful elections.

Speaking earlier, the INEC chairman said they were at the Force headquarters to seek collaboration with the police for a peaceful elections.

Professor Amupitan said the INEC team had visited the IGP to ensure that proper preparations in terms of security are put in place before the election.

He stated that INEC had identified violence and insecurity as some of the major threat to the forthcoming elections.

According to him, “without proper arrangements and a secure environment, the electorate and the contesters will not even have opportunities for free and peaceful elections.”
