The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing fight against crime, with the arrest of about 40 traffic robbery suspects, kidnappers, armed robbers, and receivers of stolen property across Abuja and neighbouring communities.
Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi disclosed this in Abuja at the command headquarters on Wednesday, saying the successes followed a strategic review of crime patterns within the territory.
According to the police commissioner, ten suspected traffic robbers who allegedly operate under the guise of hawkers along congested roads and traffic points have been arrested following public complaints about their activities.
The suspects identified as Umar Salihu, Yusuf Isah, Aliyu Hamza, Abubakar Naziru, Muhammed Musa, Yagugu Mohammed, Suwidi Jibril, Kasimu Taraba, Abubakar Sani, and Aminu Umar are currently in custody undergoing investigation.
CP Sanusi said the command also intensified operations against traffic offenders, particularly motorists driving against traffic, popularly known as “one-way”.
He revealed that 20 suspects arrested for various traffic violations had already been charged to court.
In a separate operation, police operatives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) arrested Ismail Tasiu, 32, in a hotel in Jabi District over his alleged involvement in armed robbery incidents in Nyanya and Kubwa areas of the FCT.
The suspect was arrested alongside Adamu Aliyu, 35, who police described as a receiver of stolen items linked to the robbery syndicate.
Recovered exhibits included five motorcycles, three knives, a licence plate number, and a face cap bearing the inscription “Kaduna State Vigilante Service (KADVS).”
The command also rescued three kidnap victims abducted from Nyanya on August 14, 2026.
Investigations revealed that the victims had been taken to New Nyanya in neighbouring Nasarawa State.
Acting on intelligence, police operatives arrested two suspects, identified as Godwin Afekhide and Aaron Ogbu, and successfully rescued the victims unharmed before reuniting them with their families.
In another breakthrough, six suspected armed robbers were arrested by VCRU operatives following investigations into a series of house-breaking incidents within the FCT.
The suspects — Sanusi Yusuf, Zakari Mohammed, Sani Adamu, Abdulwasi Yahuza, Abdullahi Abah, and Aliyu Mohammed — were alleged to specialise in breaking into homes at night, stealing valuables and attacking victims.
CP Sanusi assured residents that the Command would sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements, dismantle their networks, recover weapons and stolen items, and ensure offenders face justice.
He urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible information on suspicious persons and activities, stressing that community cooperation remains vital to making the FCT safer for all.
